Head of Marketing

Paytient

Our Mission

Help people better access and afford care.

Our Thesis

Most care in the future will be cash purchased or financed versus insured. While this sounds massively disruptive it is not without precedent.

We believe this societal shift is actually a good thing and will rhyme with its historic analogue of how retirement savings shifted from being an employer-paid, defined benefit (pension) to an employee-oriented, defined contribution (401k) model. This societal shift liberated employers from expensive, unmanageable costs totally unrelated to their core business and catalyzed a Cambrian explosion of innovation relating to retirement and financial services.

We see the same shift slowly underway in healthcare, as evidenced by higher deductibles, and we are positioning Paytient to be the enabling financial platform upon which the effortless buying and selling of sub-catastrophic care will be built and transacted.

Our Business

Offered by employers and insurers, Paytient is embedded or put alongside health plans to give ‘paytients’ the ability to pay for unexpected, out-of-pocket expenses over time – always without interest or fees. We are wedging into the world by putting Paytient into the purses and wallets of millions of people and helping better access and afford care.

With a globally remote team and headquartered roots in Columbia, Missouri, we are a founder-led, privately held company funded by Inspired Capital, Box Group, Felicis Ventures, Lachy Groom, Lightbank, and Cultivation Capital.

About the Role

As Paytient’s first Head of Marketing, you’ll lead the big picture brand strategy that assures our story resonates within our market of healthcare providers, employers, and employees. As a key member of company leadership, you’ll help shape the evolution of our product, organization, and customer impact. As our chief storyteller, you’ll give voice to customer-facing teams with evocative, creative assets that highlight the disruptive power of Paytient to our customers and the world. You will lead our existing marketing verticals (performance marketing, brand, and content) while continuing to build a team to execute on your vision.

Highlighted responsibilities include:

  • Refining our storytelling and brand narrative to articulate Paytient’s value proposition for each channel and create trust, goodwill, understanding and desirability
  • Creating and executing marketing and communications strategies to evoke an emotional response among audiences and cause them to engage with Paytient with high intention
  • Serving as the executive sponsor for all visual branding, copy and creative assets, and ensure Paytient’s brand standards are meaningfully differentiated, trusted and evocative
  • Leading our Communications and Public Relations strategy and serving as the first point of contact to grow awareness and prestige in the market
  • Recruiting, leading, managing, and growing a team of a 8+ marketers (leaders and individual contributors) who develop and execute distinctive, productive campaigns
  • Developing insights based on market research, competitive analysis, campaign effectiveness, and industry trends and translating those insights into actionable recommendations that promote business objectives and drive tangible results
  • Living and inculcating Paytient’s cultural principles
  • Relentlessly analyzing the business and proactively offering insights and recommendations to sales and executive leadership
  • Managing the marketing budget and investing in the professional development of the marketing team

About you:

  • You have meaningful experience (which could translate into 8+ years but not necessarily) defining and redefining at least one iconic brand or product
  • You thrive in a startup environment: building in the open spaces instead of following the protocols of the past
  • You roll up your sleeves and are tenacious about achieving your mission
  • A passion for building brands and storytelling. You understand how to evoke feelings through mission-driven narratives
  • A track record of creating, launching and refining product and partner go-to-market strategies, programs and enablement.
  • You’re a natural collaborator with significant experience partnering with cross functional stakeholders across sales, product, engineering, design & more
  • You’re comfortable navigating industry Red Tape: We sit between two highly-regulated markets (fintech & healthcare) and have to choose our words carefully.
  • You’re adept at context switching, able to modulate messaging across different channels with different pain points, buying cycles and usage triggers.
